Like every year, the novel team will present our high quality load distribution measurement systems at our booth (no. Z3F34) located right opposite from the Bavarian Centre in the Zabeel Hall of the exhibition space.

novel has participated in ARAB HEALTH since more than 10 years due to our important contributions in combating Diabetes. Saving the Diabetic foot is one of the major themes in most Arab countries, building on the high prevalence of Diabetes there. The goal for persons with Diabetes is to prevent localized high plantar pressures and to create a better pressure distribution under the foot. novel’s emed® platform measurement system has proven to be the most accurate pedography system in foot diagnostics and its outcomes are used to select the appropriate footwear and construct shoe inserts. In addition, our pedar® in-shoe measurement system provides detailed and accurate information on foot function as well as the functions of shoe and shoe insert; it is able to measure and quantify pressure relief from inserts in modified shoes. Our emed® and pedar® system are therefore the ideal combination to diagnose the foot and to monitor the function of footwear in order to prevent Diabetic ulceration and amputation.

We look forward to meeting you at this most important trade fair and exhibition and to discuss our newest systems with you!

ESM 2014 Report

The 14th biennial ESM was held in the historic Cambridge, MA July 2-6, 2014. The scientific presentation at this year’s conference and the keynotes by Dava Newman, Marian Hannan, Georg Duda and Paolo Bonato encompassed science from the cellular level to population science and from Earth to space! The art in science award presentations came from many different fields including diabetes, anthropology, geriatric, musical and clinical science.

This year’s conference was held over the American 4th of July Holiday.  The history of Cambridge was tied into each of our events and included the Harvard Museum of Natural History, Harvard Yard, the Longfellow House and much more!  While hurricane Arthur did its best to derail our plans on July 4th we made the best of the day which included World Cup soccer (fútbol) and an enjoyable (but wet) harbor cruise.

The conference concluded with a magnificent concert performance by pianist Henriette Gärtner, who in turn was also the art in science award winner for 2014. The scientific banquet was held at the Sheraton Commander conference site and attendees enjoyed contra music and dancing!

ESM 2014 was again a huge success and we look forward to the meeting in two years and the time we get to spend with our ESM friends and colleagues!

Review: Exposanita 2014 in Bologna

novel participated to Exposanità 2014 in Bologna, Italy, from the 21st to the 24th of May. As in 2012, novel were guests at the stand of our commercial partner Intimax, the company that distributes the novel systems in Italy.

This international exhibition is dedicated to health care and assistance products, and for 30 years now it is seen as the event that enables access to manufacturers and distributors to the Italian market.

This year's show was another successful event for novel.  We caught up with our users in Italy, and we met many new potential customers, who were very keen to learn the difference between the novel technology and the products presented by competitors.

During a typical demonstration at the stand, the visitor had a chance to test the novel systems (emed®, pedar®, pliance®) and was then provided with a personal report on a CD-ROM.

We would like to thank Intimax for their support and hospitality, and hope to share this experience in two years’ time, when the Exposanità will take place once again.

Dissected: The incredible human hand and foot --- BBC Series

“To truly understand our hands and feet, we need to look inside them”, says biologist Dr George McGavin.

McGavin is the presenter of the first part of a two-part BBC documentary series taking us to discover the natural engineering that makes us human unique: It shows the dissection of a real hand and foot. At the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research (IMAR) at the University of Dundee, leading experts in human anatomy have created a dissection lab to look inside a hand and a foot taking them apart layer by layer. “You can learn a lot from books and lectures but it is only by dissecting the human body yourself that you truly understand how it works,” McGavin argues.
